中川座オペラ「椿姫」 – La Traviata

オペラで舞うことはこれまでもありましたが、それは和の題材ばかり。
この時は純粋な西洋作品ということで、大きな挑戦であり刺激的な体験となりました。
Although I had danced in operas before, they were always based on Japanese themes.
This time, it was a purely Western opera — a bold and exciting challenge.

また、この舞台は「美華啓冶」から本名「ごん乃ゆい」に改名して臨んだ最初の公演。
新たな歩みを意気揚々と軽井沢へ向かったことをよく覚えています。
いつも新鮮な挑戦をくださる中川京子先生には、改めて感謝申し上げます。

「椿姫」は言わずと知れた名作。
社交界の場面で踊るにあたり、「雰囲気を踊りで表して欲しい」というリクエストをいただきました。
私は社交界に入り込んだ娼婦の気分で、気高さと妖艶さの間を行き来するように舞いました。

香りも舞台の一部。
普段は着物に匂い香を忍ばせていますが、この時は思い切ってシャネル No.5 を纏い、気分を変えて臨みました。
香りが変わると、心まで変わる――舞踊の不思議さを改めて感じた公演です。

It was also my first performance under my real name, “Yui Gonno,” after changing from my former stage name.
I still remember the anticipation I felt as I traveled to Karuizawa, grateful to Ms. Kyoko Nakagawa for offering me such stimulating opportunities.

In La Traviata, I was asked to convey the atmosphere of the ballroom through dance.
I embraced the role of a courtesan who has stepped into high society — noble yet tinged with sensual allure.

Fragrance, too, became part of the stage.
While I usually wear traditional incense with kimono, for this performance I chose Chanel No.5.
With its scent, my mood shifted completely, reminding me of the mysterious connection between fragrance and dance.
