「物云舞」 – Monoiu-mai

この日は地歌「鐘が岬」と「物云舞」の二作品を舞わせていただきました。
いずれも自ら振付をした演目で、大好きな箏奏者・横山佳代子さんと共演できたことは大きな喜びでした。
朗らかで優しい方でありながら、芸のことには厳しく真剣。そんな横山さんとご一緒できたことに、気持ちも一層引き締まりました。
「物云舞」は平安中期に興った舞とされ、数十首の記録が残るものの、その実態は分かっていないそうです。
作曲者の伊福部昭氏は「歌いながら舞うその典雅さが、この曲を書く動機になった」と語っています。
初めは「ものいうまい」と音で聞き、「物を言わない舞」と想像しましたが、実際は「物を言いながら舞う」と知り、その優雅さを思い描き胸を打たれました。
旋律は穏やかで美しく、舞っているとまるで天上へ昇るかのような心地に。
音楽の高まりに合わせ、さらし布を振りながら舞い終えた時、まさに昇華するような感覚を得ました。
“Monoiu-mai” – Dance with Voice

On this day, I performed two pieces: the jiuta Kane-ga-misaki and Monoiu-mai.
Both were my own choreographies, and it was a special joy to perform them with the koto player I greatly admire, Kayoko Yokoyama.
She is always warm and cheerful, yet uncompromising when it comes to art—a quality I deeply respect.
Monoiu-mai is said to have originated in the mid-Heian period, with several texts preserved though its true form remains unknown.
Composer Akira Ifukube remarked that “the elegance of dancing while singing” inspired him to write this piece.
At first, hearing the title as “mono iu mai” (to refrain from speaking), I imagined a dance of silence.
Learning instead that it meant “dancing while speaking” moved me greatly.
The melody is serene and beautiful, and as I danced, I felt as though lifted to heaven.
Following the music’s rise, I waved a white cloth, and at the end it was as if my body and spirit had ascended with the sound.
